Since when are most audiophiles "most listeners." If you read video magazines, you would realize that most of them (a) use music first to evaluate the home theater system, (b) agree that if the system can accurately play music, then it will be a successful home theater system. I suspect that most audiophiles also into home theater are more concerned about the system reproducing dialog, or the music soundtrack.
The fact is that "most listeners" are listening to music on boom boxes and boomy bass car systems designed to rattle the windows of the car next to them. So I am not sure I agree with your statement that "for most listeners" the audio system is designed to much of anything other than rattle the glass.
There is little difference between a system optimally set up for music also being a superlative home theater system. With a front projector, there is no difference.
