RAID Array ?

Just curious.... what is the capacity of each RAID disk? How many in the array? Thanks for bringing AA back up before the planned migration.

Just a bit of techie trivia:

RAID 5 uses distributed parity data across the disks and can survive a single disk failure. Although you can tolerate one bad disk in a RAID 5 group, your data is vulnerable while that disk is bad.... In other words, if a second disk should go bad before the first bad disk is replaced (or automatically hot swapped if you have a hot spare in the array) and rebuilt, you're toast.

And with HUGE capacity disks, it can take the RAID array FOREVER to rebuild the replacement disk in the RAID group.... all the while your data is vulnerable until the replacement disk is rebuilt. This is the price you pay with HUGE capacity disks in the RAID group.

To help solve this problem, RAID 6 is becoming more popular. RAID 6 can sustain two disk failures in the RAID group and not lose data. It uses a second distributed parity scheme across the disks.
