I'm wondering if this company is losing ground lately. CC stopped carrying HK and Infinity and I've got to think CC accounted for a very high percentage of this company's total sales. I'm in the Chicago area and the more well known local chain that used to carry Revel dropped them a while back. Now Infinity isn't available in the greater Chicago area at all. HK is sold by Saturday Audio Exchange which has 2 locations but is only open a few days a week. According to the Revel site Revel stuff is still sold in 8 locations in the area. I've never been to any of these places, though, and they don't seem to have websites, so I'm wondering if they are mostly people selling out of their homes and not retailers.I don't really have an opinion about whether or not this is a good thing but it seems strange to me that it isn't discussed more on this board. If nothing else I'd think it would be a relief to small dealers that a national big box store chain like CC is abandoning the only brand it carries that was competing in the hi-fi value for money market.
I expect Magnolia/BB to kill Tweeter at some point since Magnolia has the advantage of being in BB but is otherwise almost the exact same store. The expertise of the guys I've talked to in Tweeter doesn't seem to go much past hooking up tv's so I don't think there's any real reason to go there for advice. Look at the Yahoo chart and you'll see where this company is headed:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=TWTR&t=5y&l=on&z=m&q=l&c=
If tweeter croaks that'll be the end of the big chains, other than Magnolia/BB, that sell some higher end stuff. It seems to me like the large scale conglomerate approach to the high-end is failing on the heels of the failure of most of the independent stores and small chains.
Is this hobby just going to sink into complete obscurity or what? Does anyone out there think this could be an opportunity for a resurgence of smaller specialty shops or is it just another step in the other direction?
