If you mean upfront and punchy, then I've heard my Mac MC60's and the even better MC275 do that pretty well. If you mean massive, ominous, and "slammalicious", that is a lot rarer territory for tubes. Heard on a dealer's Wilson X-1's, it takes a pair of Audio Research 600s to move massive amounts of air like a Krell FPB600. I noticed that Noel Keen's review at Stereo Times indicates that he switches between his Krell and big KR tube amps on his VR-8's depending on what material he listens to and what presentation he desires. Boy, it must be nice to be well-endowed (financially)! BTW, I also own SS.
