FWIW, the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts, on the campus of Boise State University, is shaped like the outline of the state of Idaho.
There is also a theory that the siting of the pyramids of Egypt was done to replicate the major stars in the constellation Orion, with the river Nile taking the role of the Milky Way.
If so, people have been making religious/chauvinistic/aesthetic statements with buildings for a long time.
