I am coming up on two years sans tv input into the house. I recommend it highly.Oh, I still have several tv's, but they are only connected to DVD players.
I watch movies, and even some TV series I am fond of, such as Firefly, 3rd Rock, Lexx, Northern Exposure, Shadow Warriors ... etc.
No excoriating, shrieking, tumultuous demands for my money and attention ... no more life sucking, dehumanizing visual hog phlegm ... no Barbie and Ken dolls telling me what to be afraid of, what to think, who to hate ... oh, and reminding me of all the ways I smell badly, and just generally come up short of snuff ...
I don't know if it is a comment on our society ... I am not even sure what it means ... I just know that personally, I could not take it any longer.
The twenty minutes of NPR I wake up to, is quite enough to make me aware of all of the horrible things happening around me. I don't need to see them in slow motion.
I suppose if giant crabs invade the Earth, someone will ring me up and tell me to run ... or at least to lay in extra lemons and butter when I go shopping.
I do miss Iron Chef, though ... ah well, I am sure it will be out on DVD before too long.
