These tubed monoblocs must be the best-kept secret in Audiophilia. No wonder, as the designer (Bruce Rozenblit) has apparently alienated every dealer in the world by pulling his product and going factory direct. The only place I've seen them advertised is on the SoundStage! website. The Super Compacts match the bass output of my Plinius SA-100 ss amp and approach the high-end clarity of my Joule VZN-80 OTL tube amp. They run amazingly quiet. At 150 watts each, they have no problem driving lower-sensitivity speakers such as my Gershman RX-20 Avantguardes. It is a wonder that more designers are not using the EL-509 output tubes, which also find their way into Transcendent's OTL amps. Finally, I did not buy the Super Compacts because of their price point; nonetheless, these are bargains beyond belief.
| Product Weakness: | No published reviews to convince yourself you're buying the right thing or to reprint and impress your friends with. |
| Product Strengths: | Elegant, simple design. Truly compact: 10"W x 10"D x 9"H. Runs quiet and moderately warm. Very nice brushed stainless steel housing. Tight, deep bass, non-bloated, clear mids, and almost OTL-like highs. |
