One of the big points of confusion for undertanding the issues with digital/analog et al. is mixing up the problems with the delivery formats, i.e CDs and records with the recording formats.I am talking about recording formats. Records can also be a pale imitation of the record cutting master tape. Some sound great, but all have significant distortion and errors compared to the Master Tape.
I have a number of albums where I have a copy of the 16 bit master that has not gone through the CD process and the CD to compare. There are negative differences. But the differences are much less than the difference between an analog master and a record.
Though I generally prefer the sound of a cutting analog master to a 16 bit master anyday. After the record is made, that might not be the case. Because so many records were made so poorly (late seveties to early eighties! BLEAH!).
