So why not compensate for that "brighter" sound with some high frequency roll-off to create a more natural sound? It's a rare recording engineer who does no equalization at all.In my opinion, high frequencies are the weakest link on CDs/digital recordings, so violin is one of the few instruments that favors analog recordings/vinyl (while emphasizing the main weakness of digital recordings/CDs).
In my opinion a focus only on bass guitar and drums would move the comparison in favor of digital ... while a focus on cymbals might move the comparsion in favor of analog (or maybe there is no good comparison between live cymbals and any recorded cymbals).
