Sorry I haven't heard the DR-3 or seen one. The DR-9 is 19" wide, 22" deep (including handles) and about 7" tall. It does run warm but not real hot.
The DR-3 and a DR-6 (?) are pure Class A amps. The DR-9 then followed as a higher powered version of this series. The DR-9 does double down to 2 ohms as I would assume the others would as well. According to the manual, the objective was to design a higher powered amp that was as good as the DR-3 so I'd expect the sound to be similar.
