Mini-Review: JSMR Intelligent Chip!

Ok, so curiosity got the better of me. I plonked down the equivalent of US$12 for the JSMR variety of the Intelligent Chip as opposed to the Golden Sound variety (one could argue, I suppose, that mine is the more genuine article)

Anyway, before I get to the conclusions, here's what I did...

(1) Picked one of my favourite CD - Bill Evans Trio, Explorations, from Riverside Records (transfered with the K2 proccess)
(2) Ripped the entire CD 5 times into different folders on my PC and performed random track pair comparisons. Verified that every rip produced identical copies onto my HD
(3) Warmed up my system for an hour before any listening tests
(4) Listened to the CD twice without any IC treatment
(5) Treated the CD while playing for 2-seconds with the IC
(6) Listened to the treated CD again twice
(7) Re-ripped CD to a 6th folder on my HD

And the results....

Listening test - ZERO audible difference
Wav image difference - ZERO audible difference

I did further listening tests with other CD and SACDs, always the same results, no dicernable differences.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that I'm a total tweak skeptic, let me just say that I completely believe in the audibility of changes in power cord, interconnect cables, speaker cables, AND, I use the Shakti Stone on my pre-amp and believe I can actually hear a difference!

And, before anyone jumps to the conclusion that my system isn't resolving enough, rest assured it is; I use a complete set of Boulder's 1000 series electronics, the Linn Unidisk 1.1, Revel Ultima series speakers, and exhotic cables (that run into the $1,000s).

So, if this so-called Intelligent Chip is supposed to make a difference in my setup, it certainly wasn't audible to the level of even power cord changes.

As far as I'm concerned, the Intelligent Chip is a BOGUS TWEAK.

I suggest people save their money for something else.
