Can a patent application claim be verified?

65.121.117.135

Does anyone here know about this aspect?

The question is this - if a manufacturer asserts that he has a patent pending, can an interested party look up the Patent Office's Internet files to verify that such an application has indeed been filed?

I'm not talking about being able to access what the patent says - that won't be public domain until it's been awarded which could take years.

I'm talking merely about verifying whether company XYZ has actually applied for and filed a patent request on a particular date, similar to how you can access a court's recent case records to see whether a certain party's case has been entered. It'll just say X vs Z and tell you who the assigned judge is. Ditto for this patent question.

I was under the impression that third parties can access the records to verify whether someone else has indeed filed a patent application - but I'm also told that one cannot or possibly only if one had the case # which the applicant would have to reveal in the first place.

Anyone here know for sure?
