to me, it's evidence that the the tyres has less grip on the road, which translates to the engine spinning harder, thus more fuel consumed.
of course, it could also be my turbo is less efficient - maybe the humidity of the air has an impact? (it's a low pressure turbo, so it's on even at low revs).
