Point of clarification here, if you are tapping on a table once per second, you are doing much more than applying a 1Hz sinewave. A tap or knock is going to be more like a square wave impulse, which is equivalent to the sum of an endless series of sinewaves, including components at the resonant frequency. Try grabbing the edge of the table and slowly change between pushing and pulling once a second. Hear anything? Didn't think so.
