Good Luck.....

Hi Mike,

Welcome to hi-fi the hell a.k.a. St Louis. We've only got a couple of decent, true hifi shops here in town. I'll give you the quick rundowns.

Music For Pleasure
Krell, Arcam, Dynaudio, Naim, Primaire, Linn, Acoustic Energy, Rega, plus a few other minor lines. Probably the coolest audio salon you'll set foot in, in the midwest. Sorry no tubes.

Best Sound
Audio Research, Rotel, B&W, Martin Logans, Magnum Dynalab, Denon plus a few other minor lines. Decent shop, see Tim he's into tubes.
no web site

Flips
Levinson, Creek, Maggies, Ruark, Vandersteen, Klipsch (reference) plus a few other minor lines. See Thom. Probably one of the better tube designers in the area. Into 2a3's 45's plus designs some killer pre's.

Musical Design / Musical Concepts
John designs and sells tubed preamps, solid state amps and sells retrofit kits for the old Hafler amps. Also does some killer mods to commercial gear. Definately into tubes, but not much to hear other than his gear. Think he has some Meadowlarks.

We've got a couple of big names here in town. Keith Herron, Clayton Audio (Wilson Shen), H. Duane Goldman (aka The Disc Doctor), Sam Kennard (aka Vibrapods) and a few more that don't quite come to mind.

Kinda strange here in town. The audiophiles are fractured. Sturgus, Steve and myself are getting together on a (quasi) regular basis and trying to corrupt a few more people.

The three of us are into tubes. I've gone off the deep end. I'm getting ready to tear down my kilo-watt SS system in favor of a pair of Lowthers and a 2a3. I occasionally get some interesting gear that comes through the house (I write for TNT-Audio.com). If nothing else, it's always something different to whats in town.

Contact me off line and we can all hook up. Sounds like next week Sturgus and Steve (plus a few more) may be coming by. You're welcome to join us.

Regards,
Scott Faller
