If you are good with electronics, you can certainly make a AC-DC-AC conversion contraption, using batteries and conversion circuits.Me, not being so astute, opted to use a XS technology Strata 1000 unit (company is defunct now), which is basically an expensive Battery-based UPS. It's not a cheap UPS that chops up sine waves, but creates "perfect sine wave" from the battery-buffer. This unit was good stock, but had some issues. Internal wire/solder quality as well as AC outlet quality was FAR from ideal, not to mention cheap captive AC cord. Expected result was somewhat laid-back sound with restricted dynamics. BUT, the rest of the sound was so pure, I had to mod it. I changed wires inside with some teflon/silver, Belden 83802 wire, put on some ACME silver-cryo outlets, and installed a male IEC jack to use good power cords with the unit.
Now I love this unit. Unfortunately, it can't be bought anymore, but there are people who still make something similar, such as PowerWare...
