Physical basis of synergy?

Hi all,

How do you think 'synergy' is achieved exactly? Do you think it's mostly a crap shoot past a certain point (i.e., you can match the sensitivity of a speaker with an appropriately powered amp, but that's no guarantee they'll sound together), or do you think there has to be a science to it?

I suppose that's the $25,000 question: science or magic?

Here's why I ask: I'm getting a modded Jolida JD-100 this week. It's got black gate gates and super-quiet diodes, etc. etc....it's wired with DH Labs Silver Sonic wire, which is the same wire as my speakers.
It goes without saying, I think, that a stereo system is a complete machine. So it seems, on paper at least, that the best way to achieve synergy would be to match up all the parts...right? Fer instance, if I were to go ahead and put black gate caps and fancy diodes, etc., into my Unico, there would be greater synergy between it and the Jolida...riiiight?

You can discern a hidden agenda here.

My big idea is to do this mod to tweak the Unico so that it's in better agreement, so to speak, with the Jolida. I also think the best way to approach cabling is in system terms, no mixing and matching, the same wire, or complementary wire, throughout. So I want to move towards all-Bogdan cables with all-Shunyata power cords. If you really want to avoid tone controls and achieve neutrality, it seems like the best way to do that is find the most neutral cables you can (to your ears; the cable that gives you 'the most' information) and use that through your whole system, rather than mixing and matching.

But is this off the mark? Is there more given over to chance than I'm considering?

What do you think? How is system synergy achieved, and what are its physical bases?

Sorry for the length and heft for a Monday post. All answers appreciated.
