...know already that vastly better sound is captured in RedBook CDs than is generally heard even over the most expensive systems.The repeat/back keystroke thing was first brought to my attention ten years ago, and since then I have been careful *when conducting experiments* to make sure the cut is accessed the same way every time.
Needless to say I've suffered some abuse for this stricture.But nothing like the abuse I get about tweaks!
My stated position for over a decade has been: When some manufacturer builds a DAC (or player) that's immune to the tweaks, then we know the job has been done right and I'll recommend a purchase.
Meanwhile the sonic scrappiness of all digital products to date proves how little we understand the process, despite heavy, math-laden pieces in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society and the pronouncements of self-styled experts even here on the Asylum!
