Hello, I recently upgraded my system to include a new Sunfire Ultimate Receiver. First let me say, this thing is spectacular! I upgraded from an older JVC receiver (I know - not doing my speakers justice) and I expected a difference, but the difference was astounding. The sunfire is connected to B&W CDM NT9's and CD CNT (and a couple crappy surrounds). So the static comes from the speakers even when the volume is all the way down and after a certain level, around -25 db, the hissing starts to get louder. When my room is at it's quietest, I can just hear this from my listening postion even. It comes from all 3 front speakers.
Here are some things I have done that have had no effect:
1) removed all inputs to the receiver.
2) disconnected the crappy rears
3) unplugged everything electrical from all outlets on the same circuit (I think) except the receiver of course.
4) unplugged the Cable (TV) from the wall.I think that's about it. None of those had any discernable effect on the static.
Let me describe the static a little: From the tweeters it's mostly a hissy staticy sound, this is the most apparent. From the mid range driver it is more of a hum.
I used the receivers menus system to electronicaly shut off the amplifier part of the reciever, and it got rid of the static, so it must not be the pre-amp section.
Here is what I have left to try, and thought of recently:
1) unplug refrigerator (obviously just to find out if its the source of my probs, I don't think my wife would go for any long term ;)
2) Here is one I just thought of: I recently put the receiver (though this was only days after purchasing it) in a wireframe bookshelf rack thing. could this be acting a nice big antenna picking up some rf? I am going to pull it out and try it, just have not yet.I included a link to a shelf similar to the one my stuff is on. By the way the shelf positions are adjustable and I have one positioned just above the receiver, and it's the only thing on it's shelf.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
Thanks!
