I am sure you've seen or have done this yourself...you close your eyes and tilt your head to try to hear something. (shut done one sense to increase another)PLUS...this may not be true for everyone...but in the dark you have "less stuff" to look at and you know you are there just for the music, less interferences.
I would guess that a lot of people DON'T like to listen in the dark, they get tried of waking up and hearing the ffffffffbummmb ffffffffbummmb ffffffffbummmb of the cartridge on the manual TT at the end of the record that ended 3 hours ago.
But I could be wrong.
