Maybe the situation now is different, but five years ago all cars sold in the US as Lexus were a left-hand-steering versions of the cars made and sold in Japan as Toyota. And cars sold in the US as 'Toyota' were left-hand-steering versions of cars... that also sell as Toyota on the Japanese market. Apart from some regional trim for a particular market, engine tuning (downward), there's very little tarting-up (mostly down!).All that comes from the simple market differences. In Japan, Toyota can afford selling 10-15 lines of passenger cars (plus four-wheel-drives). In the US and Europe - 3 or 4, not more.
