A friend of mine has the MP 1 & MA 1 combo driving 6' Pipedreams, I lent him my Io. He much prefers the Io's phono stage. So much so that he is selling his MP 1 and getting an Io with volume controls and a switch for the second input, and the dual power supplies, turning it in to a true dual mono design.

Asked Jim White which was preferable; Io & Callisto or Io + volume controls + dual power supplies, given that the latter has only two inputs, no mute or mono switch, Jim said that the thoroughbred Io would be superior.

The only fly in the ointment is that the Atma-Sphere design uses the 600 ohm pro-audio balanced standard. I don't know the balanced output impedance of the Io / Callisto ? Normal consumer balanced gear tends to have a higher output impedance than the A-S gear would like to see.

Could answer definitively in a few weeks time when the Io arrives.

warm regards
Philip
