... though I've never really subscribed to the "burn in" theory.I should point out that the discs I used for my quick test (early Art of Noise and Enigma's second album) aren't very well recorded, IMO. I used them because I happen to have two copies of each, which made for an easy test. I might burn a couple of copies of some decently recorded stuff and repeat the test someday.
I'm quite happy to do no worse than the Sony -- it sounds pretty decent to me -- but I was quite surprised to find zero difference between the two units, no matter how bad the recordings were. I don't *think* I'm going deaf...
