Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!!!!

I just got the Ack dAck DAC, slapped it into the "B" system.... This was maybe the most-profound improvement I've heard in a system of mine since slapping in a Grace F-9E in my college system... Over 20 years ago.

I am now coming to the reality that digital filters, *all* digital filters..... SUUUUUCK!!!

I actually first noticed the effect of this DAC when I powered up the "B" system, and the FM was playing. The FM sounded different. Quieter. A greater sense of musical acuity. Could be less RFI. I don't know, at least yet. (I will use an AM radio to check how much RFI this thing puts out. This thing might provide a big improvement to one's **phono** section.)

I then played this battery-powered DAC. I've never realized how much oversampling DACs really mess-up the microdynamics and time response off the Redbook CD... My only concern, right now, is the negative effects this "lack of filtering" might have. (I hope there is no effect like that of the Wadia 25. Prior to the dAck, nothing sounded better at first listen than the Wadia 25, but I couldn't listen to this Wadia DAC a half an hour later.) But I have not had a first-impression of an audio component so profound in a *long* time.

More later.
