I haven't heard the SCD-1, but I have had the XA777ES in my system. The player I just bought handily bettered it's redbook performance, not to mention SACD. It has a wonderfully musical flavor with some serious weight and punch to the instrumental sonics, vocals are deeply lush sounding. The player retails at $3200, but I bet you can work a deal with a supplier. It's the Consonance Reference 1.0 tube SACD player.
