Playing 24-bit remastered CD on 20-bit DAC?

Is it a waste of money to go for the 24-bit remaster when I have a DAC of only 20-bit resolution? Or it still sounds better than the 20-bit remaster?
I've heard that using those 20-bit resolution enhancement boxes on a 16-bit DAC will still improve the sound. Is it true?
