Exactly! - many vinyl releases sound awfull as well because of poor recording and mastering - no one blames the format. with 44/16 there's no headroom for mistakes - get it wrong when you downsample from a higher bit rate and sample rate (if it was mastered at such?) and you soon run into audiable artefacts - done properly it will sound superb.
