DTS was indeed less compressed. It was recorded on laserdisc and the first DVDs (Universal) at 1.5Mbs. In order to fit DD, extras, other languages, etc the folks at DTS gave in and authorized what can only be referred to as 1/2 DTS. Discs these days have the DTS tracks recorded at 754kbs (give or take a few kbs). Fortunately, it still betters Dolby Digital. Stereophile Guide to Home Theater did a poll recently on DTS soundtracks (see Last Week's Vote)...
