Hi Slant,What you say makes good sense, and is similiar to what I have been thinking. However, here is the difficulty I run in to. I am unable to audition a 777. Reading through a large number of posts on AA, and other forums, I have not found the type of direct comparisons between the Redbook playback capability of the Sony, and the highly rated CD players that one can find used for less than $2000. Many say that the Sony is good. The question is, how good? Can it touch a Theta, or Wadia, or Naim, or ...?
