Commercial units only do so much. I have never, ever seen a commercial CD player/transport/DAC that I could not improve on. I am not the only one who could do this. If you have good basic chips and transport mechanism, which the Adcom does, then you could get Gonzo with it and blow your mind(I have done this before with a Sony CD player and it was the best thing I have ever heard/done---of course that was a about 4 years ago and what I could do now would be way, way better). We are talking multiple transformers outside the chassis, damped and shielded everything. Every regulator would be the best in the world with the worlds best bypass caps. The output stage would have no analog filtering, and be totally discrete, OFC jacks, constrained layer damping of chassis, total damping of almost every part of the Cd mechanism, blacking and greening around the laser mechanism, making the laser lense smaller, rebuilding the digital rf stages, adding tons of separate regulators to the digital section, using the worlds best lowest jitter clock, etc. etc. etc. Yes, it would cost plenty and take months to tweak out, but would beat any player. Would I do such a thing? Absolutely not. I do not have time. I will be modding all the SACD players that are coming out this year and when I find the one that has the most potential, then I will get really, really gonzo with it. Should be fun.Ric Schultz
