Go with a DAC. It'll improve any source, not just the CD. CDs are obsolete anyway. Put them on the computer and never play them again. With a DAC you can play from the CD, the computer or stream on either the computer or separate device.

That said, I'm perfectly happy with my Audioquest Dragonfly Black for $100. I'm sure you can spend more and get better sound, but 24/96 from this thing blows away CD anyway.
