If I were you, the first thing I would try is to connect the analog front channel outputs to your receiver and listen to two channel stereo with the Oppo sending out an analog signal to your receiver. If it sounds better that way, it means the DAC in your receiver sucks. A friend of mine had the same exact problem and when he connected his Oppo BDP-103D via analog rather than HDMI, it resolved his problem completely.
