My old Audio Alchemy DDSIII CD transport, based on a Sony ES transport mechanism would not play CD-Rs sometime. The early CD-Rs which were a darker green color would sometimes simply not be read. But then later it might play the same disc. It was a very random thing. The later lighter colored CD-Rs gave it no trouble all.

I got 20 years of very heavy use out of it.
