Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

wrong again

""fundamental argument was your initial claim that these devices contained no general purpose 'computer' but in fact most of them do and many run popular 'computer' operating systems. I think I eventually proved that to you. Had to pound it into your skull but I think you finally caught on. That was the first fundamental argument and a hurdle you appear to have gotten over.""

No. Multifunction. (And these devices that we're talking about do NOT contain a multifunction computer). There's a difference between a distributive networking single function endpoint with a processor: a webcam or TV, or a Squeezbox. Can't run photoshop. Yes, has a stripped down OS. This is YOUR problem: namely your inability to distinguish 2 very different types of devices: something you haven't gotten over.

A SBT & TV are not the same as a Mac Mini

""You then shifted to all the optimizations that the audio manufacturers do to these computers to make their brand name servers and streamers far superior to any other computer out there. But, you can't seem to grasp the fact that many of these optimizations are also being done by DIYers on their own general purpose computers. Hard for you to swallow since you want so desperately differentiate your brand name streamer from a DIY optimized computer.""

No. I did not shift. "Their brand named servers & streamers" is a gross misrepresentation of the device. Servers were never mentioned here. The SBT was a "new" product. So was a an Aries Mini & the PSAudio bridge. (A processor & a NIC card does not a multifunction computer make).
DIYers certainly couldn't disable a shitty USB bus that didn't exist. This isn't about me, all one has to do is press play. You pretty much stand alone when you attempt to assert that a noisy SMPS, 5 port USB bus, PCI slotted, rattley chip fan, cheap case, unshielded wiring, vibrating HD motor, noisey graphics port, bouncing around on some thin, mainboard, can somehow be "modified" by the consumer, is whack.

"More proof.... Witness the commercial music servers and streamers that use general purpose motherboards, Intel NUC and other micro-ATX based general purpose motherboards, Raspberry Pi computers, and other ARM Cortex-A9 single board computers. Like it or not, these are all general purpose computers used in a number of brand name high-end audio servers and streamers.""

Again, servers are out of scope. Again, reinforcing my point, Aries Mini, Squeezebox touch microRendu would only be using a processor, or processing board. What was really "proven" was that the mor multipurpose the processing device, the "worse" it sounds. I'll ask again, how do account for the fact that the uRenu sounds so much better than the SonicOrbiter?
The Razberri Pi is a computer that straddles the line between a multifunction computer, & a single function or few function device. (It takes a great deal to get it to run an email program or browse), yet taking it & using it as a music file player yields higher SQ, easier.

You seem to not understand too much about the goals & intentions of designing computers for performing many functions, vs the high end audio designers intention to design a singular function device. I am not saying that (multifunction) computer designers suck, to the contrary, they are great. As I said before, no one calls their TV or their refrigerator a computer. And no one is ever going to use their microRendu to run photoshop.
Being the owner of, (Ayre), several great pieces of high end audio players, I find it puzzling how disrespectful & disdainful you are of their work with digital file players. Are you going to take a look at Charles' new combo streamer-DAC?

I know that you will never respect anything that I write, for some reason my words are poison to you. Since I started talking about the Sonore products, you've poopoo-ed them. I am happy though that others that you respect got them: and I am impressed that you listened to other people and ended up buying, & are enjoying it.
