I'm not looking to improve the sound necessarily, but it seems the clamp on a new to me modded pioneer dv-s9 must have gotten minutely tweaked somehow during shipping. I'd rather just fix it then send it back. The guy is honest and packed it amazingly in a wooden crate! Shit happens.
Some cds are dead quiet in the transport, others emit a annoying ticking sound. All still track fine. If I put a small piece of scotch tape on both sides of the center hole, the sound disappears, confirming the clamp issue.
So I have 4 choices, let it make noise, tape all my cds, tear the thing apart down to the clamp and fix it (I have detailed instructions) or try one of those snake oil carbon fiber mats for $30.
Might try the mat until I get the balls to do cd player surgery.
