I'm thinking about a used Esoteric DV-60 to replace a Sony XA5400ES as my source for surround music. The Sony connects to a Bryston SP3 via HDMI, the only way to get surround from it. The Esoteric would connect to the SP3 via 5.1 analog, the only way to get surround from it. An alternate source for surround music is the Oppo 105D that is connected via HDMI but could also be connected via 5.1 analog. I suspect the analog sound would be better with the DV-60 than that with the 105D, but perhaps not than the SP3 with HDMI from the XA5400ES or 105D.

I use an Ayre C-5xeMP through a Parasound JC 2 BP for stereo. LR from the SP3 is passed through the JC 2 BP to access JC 1 amps.
