Yes, it does. But really, is that the most important part of a digital link? It can be done perfectly well with "wires", and is done well all the time regardless of wired method, at vastly higher bit rates, in vastly more important applications. Also regularly done poorly too...just like Toslink is. I would like to think that in the kind of gear most people here are talking about, especially DACs, that these things are done properly. I would *like* to think that...I really would...
Some people would say the real *useful* most important part of an optical link in an application is its security. Which also goes with the "no RFI" aspect that some like too. Don't want anyone eavesdropping on your tunes now.
