It would seem to be all about selling more 'stuff'.
A soundbar is better than AWFUL TV speakers. They seem to get interesting at about the 500$ level.
I take my TV audio from the Small Dish receiver (Set to PCM) or from the optical out of the PS3, which is also PCM.
