Based on my limited experience, I agree with Ken and Gary that is should not be the NOS design of the DAC, alone. However, maybe something else in the design that is not related to the caps is causing this? It would be helpful if you would hear from others who own the same DAC.
FWIW, I had a Lampizator L4 G4 here (with Duelunds) that did the very same thing you are describing.
I also owned the Metrum Hex and now the Metrum Pavane, both of which are NOS, and neither of those have that larger than life trait, although the Pavane, in particular, displays a well-proportioned wide and deep soundstage.
