If you look at the Sony product page, you'll see that the player definitely does both 2.8 and 5.6MHz DSD. After all, they along with Phillips are co-owners of the DSD trademark.
The player uses a Burr Brown PCM 4202 ADC; the same as in the Tascam DA-3000.
No mention of what cartridge is used, or what tonearm parameters are adjustable. Looks like tracking force and anti-skate, plus the slotted headshell. At this price point, a 5VDC wall wart power supply is used. The included software is also probably a price-point weak link.
It should be possible to upgrade the performance a few clicks by changing the power supply, cartridge, and cables departments.
