Working from "live" sources and HDMI makes this much more difficult and, frankly, I have no practical solution for you. My only thought, although it is analog and will not get you into the Benchmark DAC, is the headphone jack. Very few prepros or AVRs have digital out these days but some have a Zone2 HDMI output which is more independent than a Monitor2 output.
