RE: Musical Fidelity A3/24 still good by today's standards?

System matching is more important than latest DAC chips in my experience. I traded a $1200 benchmark for a $300 cambridge audio dacmagic and much happier with the dacmagic.

The benchmark had hot and sizzly digititis with my amp and speakers at the time (Transcendent T8-LN OTL and Proac D15)

but then again, if you want to process 24/192 pcm or DSD files you may be out of luck with that dinosaur.
