I upgraded from the Hex to the Pavane and found it to be an improvement (of the Hex's good performance) in just about every respect and specifically improving soundstaging/dimensionality and bass. The resolution is the best I have heard. Like the Hex, it leans toward sounding neutral and if it were not so musical it may be too much truth for some systems. I have other components that are also musical and add a touch of warmth, which provides a good balance. The Totaldac USB cable and Uptone Audio REGEN were also nice upgrades.I have not had many DACs through here but I did audition the Lampizator L4G4 (loose bass and blown up soundstage, IMO) and the LaScala, which I found to sound better than the Lampizator but a bit unnatural in my system (sort of a forced sound, maybe from 6V output?). The Pavane suited my tastes better than those two DACs. I would really like to hear the Audio-GD Master 7 as I have owned several very good sounding disc players that used the BB1704K chip.
