I found a rubber band for a temporary fit. I expect it will stretch easily, but ordered a belt for two bucks and change, not 30.
You are right about the quality of the deck and sound. Allowing that it cost $1895 in 1983,that's 33 years ago. it still competes favorably with my newish Cambridge Audio deck.
