Enjoyment is what it's all about!
I've used everything but Elcasets from 78's onward and they all have their strengths, weaknesses and artifacts. And it's not like they are uniformally expressed because some media are more touchy than others and in different ways. Also some have more significant variations between manufacturing runs or individual instances than others. AND their playing and storage life expectancy vary greatly.
In the final analysis it boils down to what you prefer and what you are willing to mess with and maintain. Digital IS the future, 100% odds. And the reason is simple, it's able to maintain data integrity over time and instances.
Now is this in some basic way in conflict with nature, God's will, and historical precidence?
NO. On the contrary, it is a homage to them. One can only infer the second from the first and nature clearly is digital. DNA is discrete and sexual reproduction an interesting way to introduce jitter into the system.
Words are discrete, writing is discrete, talking is discrete BUT nuanced by presentation and so is music. Naturally what goes into our ears is time-varying air pressure which they transduce into digital nerve impulses (multi-channel PDM I think) that our brains processes, along with our Pinna's transfer Fn.. into the music that we "hear".
So the bottom line is that animal life uses both digital and analog processes as appropriate. I'm not sure about vegetables. She does it for the same reason we do: storage and processing go better digitally while interesting external events are usually conveyed by time-varying energy levels.
The bottom line: Storing information digitally is natural!
Best, Rick
