New fangled digital recording/mastering methods in the 80's is what ended my love relationship with vinyl, and drove me to accept the inevitability of the digital audio format. It's not that I preferred digital vs. analog (I fully did not), it's the fact that the primitive digital audio recording process along with the also primitive digital mastering process sounded so dreadful when transferred to vinyl master. Truly horrible sounding albums were the result.
