Home Digital Drive

Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

RE: someone would have created a business to do that already.

I think it's true that even new hi res releases likely "sound better" not so much because of increased resolution but of either a complete remaster or at least a digital transfer re-done with better equipment and with more care. In other words a CD reissue could be as good in most cases. I have still to hear definitively the improvement of hi res with all other variables removed from the equation - improvement I mean relative to CD redbook. I think when Neil Young touts this stuff he is comparing it to bad masters piped in the lowest MP3, which admittedly many young people especially are used to listening to

I didnt expect to feel this way and maybe my system simply isnt high end enough to reap the benefit. But test yourself on various sites out there that let you blind test 128k vs 320k vs CD and see how you do.
