Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

V90 DAC bass roll off

I just received a Musical Fidelity V90 DAC (built in the EU -not in Taiwan -, manufactured in June 2015).

One thing I notice is that, compared to 2 - 3 kHz, 100Hz is about 0.02 - 0.03 dB down.

I have seen some precise measurements of V90 DAC online. The result were ruler flat from 100Hz to 3kHz, less than 0.01dB deviation. None had the bass roll off of mine.

Would this be a concern for you?

As for the subjective sound quality, there seems to be some unpleasant "over-emphasis" on upper mid and high, which keeps me from falling into music. Even when I play music as a background music at low volume, that "over-emphasis" makes me pay attention to the possibly-wrong audio system. I had this feeling before the measurement.

The DAC has run less than 30 hours. I am waiting for burn in.

P.S. : Some Asylum members said that they never liked a DAC with "up sampling." Perhaps my ears have similar character?

P.S.: Before listening to V90 DAC, my brain was full of positive prejudice formed by magazine reviews: "a fatigue-free sound" - Stereophie, "Tonally, it's an enjoyable listen, well balanced and never bright or overly bassy. You certainly won't feel offended by any part of the V90 DAC's presentation" - What Hi-Fi. My feeling after listening is quite opposite to my prejudice.
