Loudness - SACD versus CD

The most and immediately noticeable aspect while playing a SACD disc for me is the extension of the soundstage from front to back and sides, like lifting a veil. However, I find that the loudness is reduced and have to crank up my preamp volume to be closer to the levels I usually listen with CD's. Typically in my ARC line-stage, CD sounds loud enough at around 35-40 setting in volume, whereas it has to increase to around 45-50 with a SACD for similar loudness.
It will be informative to know others' experience.
(Ayre C-5, ARC Ref-3, Aesthetix Atlas stereo, Vandy Quatro wood)

Thanks.
