Upsamplers, DACs, jitter, shakes and analogue withdrawals, this is it.

What to do: mod the OPPO 105D or add the NAD M51?

The OPPO was added to my system in May to replace a heavily modified SCD 777ES. My system has never had an independent DAC. The OPPO is balanced into an ARC Ref 3, balanced into an ARC Ref 110, into Vandersteen 5s. It is good for SACD but less so for RBCDs. I would feed the M51 HDMI input. I also do some streaming through an iPad with an AQ Big Sir, SE into the Ref 3. I can probably feed the iPad into the DAC UBS using an Apple lightning/ubs adapter cable.

My other source is vinyl from an Oracle, Grahan 2.0, Helicon, SE into the Ref 3. My listening is spread is currently 45% vinyl, 30% SACD, 20% RBCD and 5% streaming. This is due mostly to the SQ of each medium. My collection of media is more like 50/50 digital not allowing for the streaming. Obviously, my goal is to improve the digital side to the SQ and listening satisfaction level of the vinyl side of system. My main complaint with the digital side is mostly harshness and/or glare in the treble end, even to some degree in the SACD.

If I go full out on the mods from tweakaudio.com and used on the M51, they are within a couple of hundred dollars of each other, so cost is not the determining factor.

Thanks for any experience or advise you can pass along relative to my subject question.
